Punto Engine management light

Hi guys and gals
My wife has a 2002 punto active 1.2.
We have had a string of problems this year, including head gasket,coils,cat converter/manifold.
Today after doing a 100 mile trip,50 metres from my door the engine management light came on,and the temp gauge went to zero.
Stopped immediately.
waited a few minutes,restarted and the gauge goes from zero to quarter,then back to zero again, and the fan runs intermitently.
The engine is not unusually hot and is running normally ie not juddering or lack of power.
Any ideas or advice gratefully received.

for it to go instantly like that, i would say the ECT sensor is shafted or the wiring to it is iffy. Not expensive and a simple diy job.
