Remove all of your power cables to zones, keypads and sounders and use a meter to check the resistances to make sure you do not have a device causing a short circuit or drawing too much current.

When you had power on the system, did the keypad or any devices function have power and function?

the printed circuit board big silver thing went roasting hot

Any chance on taking a picture or describing it a little better so we have a chance of identifying the problem?

Did you replace the fuse with the same rated fuse?

You've deffo got a short somewhere.
