The ceiling in my daughter's bathroom (flat in Glasgow) is quite low, making the room a bit claustrophobic. No idea why it was done like this (probably 20 years ago or more). If we raise it, is there a legal minimum loft space that needs to be left? The extractor fan ducting and some electric cables are routed through this space, which is currently about a metre high but, other than that, there doesn't appear to be any particular reason why the space can't be reduced. Grateful for any thoughts.

Andy - Yes, it's a false ceiling (panelled wood); about 2.1m high at present

Whats the roof type then? Flat?

What height are the rest of the ceilings in the house.

Nothing stopping you taking out the false ceiling as such I wouldnt have said, either reinstate it higher up, or just put a box down one side for the extractor fan.
