Ravenheat HE 85 combi condensing boiler, fitted just under 2 years ago.
Run for a few minutes with no problem, then fires up and cuts out continuously every 3-4 seconds until turned off. When taps are turned on for hot water, boiler fires up and runs fine.
Nothing has been changed recently to produce this problem. It started doing it about 3 months ago, but has got worse over the last few weeks.
Heating comes on and off according to the timer, but the boiler is not firing properly when it is running. I have looked through the glass, and there is a steady hum, then the igniter fires, and the burner runs for 3-4 seconds, then there is a sound like something cutting out, and the burner goes out. When it goes out, the water in the condensing trap gets forced onto the second part of the trap, as though its being compressed by a burst of air.
One plumber I called said it may be the pump sticking, and to try loosening the screw on the front centre of the pump. I did try this, but it started leaking water, so I tightened it back up again and left it alone!
We have also had an issue with the red temperature light coming on, but this has only happened twice, and is cured by resetting the boiler.
I have check and bled all rads, and they are all fine.
Does this sound like anything I may be able to fix myself?
