I have an old brass knobset, where dried white "Brasso" or similar has hardened in crevices. It won't come off with water-based cleaners and scrubbing

I bet there's an easy way to get it out when you know how.

Does anyone?

Possibly an ultrasonic cleaner, and maybe ammonia as that seems to be present in brasso, but what about using some more brasso?

John - is it your intention to strip the knob all the way back to the brass and then re-polish, or maintain the 'patina' and just clean-out the corners/details?

give it a bit of a polish and clean out the detail, ta.

I hadn't thought about retaining the patina. h'mmmmm.
