Removing light

Hi,

someone has done a proper hack job on the ceiling in my new house under a light fitting that we neither need nor want. i want to fit one of those plates over the gaping hole they have left, but i don't know what to do with the wires. can anyone help please?

One of what plates? Any live cables that you intend to cover up should be disconnected from their source.
