Hello,

I have thick textured wallpaper, which has been painted on few times. So quite a bit of paint. I can remove the wallpaper using a steamer, but I am worried how much damage will be caused to the plasterboard. I am wondering if the card from the plasterboard will come off or be damaged?

I want to have the walls painted, but I would hate if it the surface is not smooth and I get bothered by imperfections like that.

I could get it re-plastered by someone else, but I can't cope with all the dirt and mess....

Is the plasterboard skimmed?

Depends what it is if it is blown vinyl it is easy strip, lift an edge and pull gently and the texture coat will come off leaving the backing paper that will come off easy with a gentle soaking.

If it is embossed paper you will be very lucky to get it off and save the plasterboard, if it is skimmed with care you should be able to do it, if it is un-skimmed you will be looking at a re-skim at the least of the damage.
