Removing wallpaper paste

I need to remove the old wallpaer paste as Im gonna paint the walls. I have started scraping it if with a small blade. Surely there must be a better and quicker way of getting this paste of?

In my experiance painting previous wallpapered walls never works,some paste always soaks into the plaster and you may find your newly painted walls start peeling/cracking or crazing in time .I always apply lining paper.

If stripped properly there won't be much left - meaning I hope you gave it a good soak in the first place.
A wash down with a rough sponge should do the job. You'll know by looking at it.
I have plenty of once-papered walls now painted and it's not a big deal really.
