Hi,

The boundary wall of my house has degraded over time, with the paint chipping, and I would like to repair and repaint the wall.

I bought some masonry paint and a tools to remove the chippings, however doing this first time I would like to make sure I am doing it right.

1. Remove the old chipped paint
2. Fill the holes with exterior filler
3. Sand - what would you recommend for hand sanding?
4. Paint - do I need to prime first?

Appreciate any help and input.

Thanks

Hi,

Maybe I am calling it incorrectly. I've attached the picture of what is flaking and requires repair.

Thanks

As a rule, free-standing walls shouldn't be painted because the moisture rising up from the ground gets trapped by the paint causing the bricks to be permanently damp. This can cause problems with salt attack, and frost damage in winter. But if the bricks are of good quality, then maybe OK?....

(Nice house, BTW. Front bedroom looks wide and spacious).

I thought silicate based masonry paints which ensure very high moisture vapour permeability wouldn't be a problem?
