replacement multipoint lock on uPVC door

hi everyone,

I have a lock that needs replacing (the lock mechanism and the cylinder) on uPVC door. i bought one of the era multipoint repair kits but when i try to turn the handle/spindle upwards 45 degrees to throw the lock, it doesn't budge. anyone encountered this problem? not sure if it's a dodgy lock or if there's something obvious that i'm not doing right.
