Having recently sat in a friends conservatory fitted with Pilkington K glass I have decided it is time to change ours to K glass.

I have a 4 X 4.5m north facing conservatory which was built in 2008 with ordinary double glazing and a polycarbonate (6 box section thick).

I telephoned a local FENSA registered company and explain I just want to replace the sealed glass units with K glass ones. He suggested the cheapest way forward was to split my existing units and replace the outer pane of glass with K glass, reseal and refit.

Does this sound like normal practice or are there other options.

Many thanks for your thoughts

Well we make d/g units and I would say it will be cheaper to just replace with new.
If he was to strip them down it will be 2 journeys and more labour , they are a **** to strip down

In theory it is possible but whether its cheaper is debatable.

What are you going to put in the place of each DGU while they are away being split?

And another thing, i wouldn't even use 'K', i'd be more inclined to use a soft coat from Saint-Gobain namely 'Planitherm' as its totally clear and you don't get that milky haze you get get with the hard coat 'K' coating. Its been mentioned a few times on here already. Not saying K is bad, just saying there is an alternative, some would argue its the better choice.
