My apartment entrance fob has recently broken. It still works however the ring part has snapped.

Is there an easy and affordable way to replace or clone this fob?

Is this something a local locksmith can do or do you need to go back to the original security firm?

(My fob is similar in appearance to the fob pictured here. I believe sometimes called a Paxton RFID Fob.)

Easy answer ....superglue,it could be switch2 or net these are different fobs... You will need the enrolment card set for switch 2 or PC for net2

Do you know if it is safe to drill through the top half (closest to the ring)? I have seen a fix where you insert a metal ring through a similar type of fob?

What is an "enrolment card"?

A card you present to the reader to add extra fobs, it will normally come in a grey wallet along with other programming cards, I can't comment on the fob as I've never taken one apart...

I wouldn't risk drilling it, you'll probably hit something vital inside!

You could try slipping it into a bit of adhesive-lined heatshrink and pinching the ring end flat with pliers as it cools... Or put it in any kind of non-metallic "sock". You could try some sort of braided cord like the handles of one of those posh paper carrier bags or a thick shoe lace. Maybe even a bit of rubber or silicone hose.

Alternatively, ask the landlord or letting agent for a new fob and keep that one as a spare.

I don't think that you can clone these fobs.

I have a snapped fob, rough up the ring part with sand paper, then covered the ring part in araldite. left it 24 hours, drilled a new hole in it. it been like it for 3 years now.
