we moved into a lovely Victorian cottage a couple of years ago. recently the parquet flooring in various places downstairs has been lifting. the flooring looks like it has been there a number of years and we cannot work out why it might be lifting (no damp underneath). the main problem is that we can't get it back into the place it has come out of. it seems that as soon as it lifts, the blocks around take a nice deep breath and spread out a bit ensuring we can't get it back in. short of pulling up the whole floor and starting again has anyone any ideas how to fix this?
please help! we have a young toddler who is constantly tripping on the broken bits of floor, it's getting dangerous!

Did you recently notice more moist in the house - like more washing to do? It could also be that the old bitumen bonding the woodblocks to your underfloor is loosing its grip - becoming brittle.
