Fault finding a bottle fridge quickly as the internal fluorescent would not work. This is a bottle fridge behind a bar with bottled beers.

Ballast in the back, starter bottom right, switch bottom left, tube top front middle. Bits spread everywhere!

While trying to test continuity around the lighting circuit, I found the MOULDED plug was reverse polarity! Light fitting would be live with switch for the light off.

This would not be picked up during a PAT test - no way to check.

Wonder how many others are like it?

Can't answer that, but this is something you must report to the fridge makers and the brewery (who probably have others of same make). Maybe the HSE e-helpline would be good.

So was the moulded plug actually found to be reverse polarity connected or is it the fact that the light fitting was still live with the switch off that led you to presume it was?

I was testing continuity around the lighting circuit, crock clip on the live pin, and probe probing around for continuity on the live, through the switch, ballast etc.

Plug was for sure reverse polarity.
