Hi all again just had a so call gas safe engineer to one of my properties and it has a potterton prima 60f boiler. Yes i no its old but get this, it keeps tripping my main circute board with out blowing the boiler fuse when you turn the boiler on. So called someone out who as told me its my pcb ond its going to cost £271 PLUS £60 TO FIT. is this right

can be a number of things tripping the elecy.
does it trip straight away with heating or hw being called for ?

could be a sticking/faulty pump, motorised valve.
what size is the fuse in the systems fused spur on the wall ?

really better someone seeing the job and running some checks on the system.
but pcb would be one of my last suspects.

you say it only happens now and then but you can disconnect the pump and see if the boiler fires every time.

I'm starting to think these PCBs that everyone complains about never actually fail. It's always something else

Hi i'm a heating engineer it's very rare for the pcb to blow.
You need to do a few checks first. You say it only trips now and again.
I have come across a problem with the fan sum times sticks which gets hot and trips the power.
But my best advice is to find a good plumber/gas fitter and stick with him.
He/she may cost a bit more but if you trust them and give repeat business they will look after you.

The PCB fitted to this boiler is VERY repliable, I have had to replace a handfull over the years, BUT i can assure you I have never known one to take out the fuse in the Spur connection, my money is on the Circulation pump or motoised valve!! ;)
