Starting to slip a bit on the hills.

Does the gearbox separate easily from the engine to put a new clutch in ?

On any FWD car, the clutch replacement involves disconnecting the suspension lower joints, which in turn allows you to slip the driveshafts out of the gearbox......quite an involved job in itself!
The transmission can usually be withdrawn from under the vehicle, but this may involve lowering a subframe.
Have you considered contacting a Mr. Clutch outlet, or similar?
John :)

Thanks Burnerman

No Mr Clutch branch near me sadly.

Been out in the car today and no slip so may it go for a few months more if I go steady.

Whereabouts are you in the Country? I might be able to put you onto someone, what he doesn't know about MG-Rover cars isn't worth knowing.

If its not of sentimental value might be a good time to trade up?
Get prices of everything before you start the repair ............

I'm in the Co Durham area.

As the car is now, the clutch has slipped a bit, the pas pump or a pipe connector has a slow leak and the fuel line in getting air in some how.

Is the 45 TD a dual mass fly wheel job ?

Had it since November 20004 so its done good! May look at updating to a VW or Volvo diesel. Not much point spending more in repairs than the car is worth.
