As above, your expectations of what can be designed for £150 are tooooo high.

No matter; if you are knocking out the wall completely, you will probably need a steel 'goalpost' frame if you don't want any clunky piers. This will comprise a steel column each side, supporting - and firmly fixed to - the steel beam across the opening. The purpose of this is to provide lateral stability to the house, which is lost when you remove the wall right across.

Speak with another SE and mention 'goalpost' and you'll get a better idea of the cost involved for the design. The alternative is to do a simpler design, leaving brick piers each side, and to work around those.
