Hi All,

I am going to be removing a wall (or pier) and replacing the existing RSJ and moving it onto 1 or 2 of the leaves of my cavity wall. I think I have attached the image of the before and after. I will be conducting the analysis myself (although not strictly a structural engineer I am a stress engineer) for the correct RSJ and any other calculations required.

After investigation the beam only supports the floor joists of a bathroom and a bedroom along with some block walls that are built on top of the floorboards and only support their own weight.

What I am trying to understand is how the beam would go into the cavity wall. I am under the impression that it would go in tight to the blocks above it and then the pad stone installed under the beam. Similar to the over side where the floor joists will rest on top of the beam and pad stone beneath.

This may seem like a daft question to some but I was just trying to understand the installation.

Any response will be very much appreciated.

Cheers

Sam
