Hi all and thank you for reading my first post on here.

As a newbie home owner and first time decorator I'm looking forward to
seeing my first house all nicely painted.

The house is in need of some renovation and I have a mate who is pretty
experienced in this area helping out.
He has skimmed the walls in the main bedroom and I have finally got
round to getting some painting done but having since found this site and
done some reading I think I may have done things slightly back to front.

I have sanded and filled the plaster before applying a mist coat (B & Q
cheapo matt emulsion) but reading here it seems the usual thing to do is
the mist coat first.

So have I given myself any problems by doing it this way and if so is
there anything I need to do to rectify the situation before applying the top
coat?

At least I've only got as far as the mist coat on two walls and will be able
to do the rest properly but I don't want half my bedroom ending up
looking wrong so any advice would be most welcome, even if it's only to
tell me to stop worrying :)

Theres not much you can do about it now...but advice for the future, dont rub down bare plaster...use a scraper to get the rough bits off and a piece of course cloth. Rubbing it down will scratch the surface and cause bad marks which may show through the next coats.

Put a second coat on and see how it looks.

Hi Zampa, thanks for that.

I'll give it another coat as soon as I can and see how it goes.
I'm going for a matt finish so hopefully any scratches will
not be too visible.

Cheers :)
