Screws for plasterboard

You could but it wouldn't be recommended.

You should use plasterboard screws for plasterboard with the correctly shaped heads that won't tear the paper or pull through.

You can use any in my opinion - never had any trouble in the past 30 years.
But the proper screws have a sharper thread that cuts through the board better.

I'm more than happy to acknowledge much greater experience but I've found that when boarding a ceiling ordinary screws will pull through plasterboard whereas the proper bugle head screws don't.

Yes As long as they don't break the paper and are not proud any will do.But tge right screws are easier to use and you can get them with threads for timber or metal.

Joe, I thought you always used clouts?

It varies. Clouts hold best but you occasionally get the head popping problem.

Decking screws are usually 70mm aren't they? That would be uncessesarily long

Many thanks for all the advice. I will bow to experience and use proper screws or nails. It was just a query as I have 2 boxes of decking screws going spare.
