Im looking to drill a few holes in 12mm plaster ceiling, i need to buy a drill though (my first drill :)) so im looking to get a one size fits all drill that will last a long time and be capable of most things i throw at it. I am not a professional just an average newbie DIYer. Is an SDS appropriate for this or will it be too powerful for light work?

Was looking at these two:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Bosch-GBH2-...TF8&qid=1378169829&sr=8-18&keywords=sds+drill

http://www.amazon.co.uk/DeWalt-D250...UTF8&qid=1378169795&sr=8-1&keywords=sds+drill

Or am i much better off just getting something like this:

As the saying goes...

"It's better to have something and not need it than it is to need something and not have it".

You can switch the hammer action off on an sds and you can fit a conventional chuck for regular bits also.

Bosch blue sds every time for me.

As for the pro's, we you use something lighter but powerful like a heavy duty cordless for ceiling drilling, as they are more wieldy.

for a ceiling, you will be more comfortable with a rechargable cordless in the region of 12 to 18 volts, as it will not be so heavy, and will be handy for most light DIY jobs.

Because the Ni-Cad batteries in budget tools fade after a few years, you needn't buy an expensive one. Own-brands will be OK.

If you can afford, and desire, a good one with Lithium batteries, ask again.
