I have a couple of double glazing panels to replace the single panes of glass in our timber door frame...

The question is, what's the best way to seal it? The glazing will be sandwiched between timber strip wood. Do I silicon the inside of the rebate before inserting the gloass? and/or silicone round the glazing once it's fitted on the outside. And do I need to use a certain kind of silicon if it's in contact with the glass itself?

dry glazing is superior than bedding in sealant and hoping for the best -

adhesive side to wood bead, compress seal with plenty of force when fixing the bead.

for downstairs windows i would use security (double sided adhesive) tape on the internal bead / rebate. stops the unit being removed from the outside.

Funny you should mention the item in the first link as I was thinking about using those....

Aren't they the exact same thing as draught excluders? ie, what you stick round the door frame to close gaps and stop draughts?

yes they are similar to some draught excluding strips. known as an E profile.

also there is one with a "lip" gives quite neat "sightlines" (available from reddiseals)

I used E profile EPDM tape... seems to work fine.

However, because I used the one without a lip I still feel the need to run some silicone along the bottom to prevent sitting water.

I couldn't justify the cost of a 100m reel and had some E profile already.
