sealing new window / doors

Hi
whats the best way to seal the external gap around new upvc windows / doors?
Am I right in thinking to use expanding foam to fill the gaps & then seal this with low modulus sealant (something like dow corning 796)?
Any advice much appreciated.

Yes just like that. You want low modulus, Neutral cure silicone. If your sealing to plaster or render rather than brick I would recommend Wurth Acrylic sealant (the internal and external use one) as you will be able to paint over it. Masking tape can be used to get really neat sealant lines.
