Hi all,

Hoping someone can advise!

I'm house buying currently and going to view a house Saturday that happens to have a shared door canopy with next door. The neighbors have used the roof section above their door as part of a porch. In short, it's pretty ugly and if I bought the house it would be first on my list to remove. The property is freehold so I would assume there would be nothing to legally prevent its removal.

My question is, is this a common request to remove shared door canopies and is it reasonably straightforward? Anything anyone is aware of that would make this process difficult? It appears to be made of PVC with a tiled roof.

Other than the neighbors ;)

Thanks!

You can remove your half but not theirs. And if half the roof relies on the other half for support, it can be a difficult thing to do - potentially requiring the whole roof to be removed and half rebuilt, which the neighbour might not want.
