sheet roof to slate

i would like to change my ground floor outhouse roof from sheets to slates but the roof supports run the wrong way for the slate latts any ideas.

You need to re-timber it - the right way.

Your new timbers should be no more than 450mm apart ideally for fixing 50x25mm slating battens.

The pitch should be no less than 22.5deg if your going to slate it.
 
If its only an outhouse then you could possibly screw short timber noggins between the rafters, running them the correct way for the battens to sit on. Got an impact driver?
