skimming ceiling?

My ceiling had been skimmed over a painted plaster finish.

The roof leaked recently and an area about 500 x 300 mm has fallen off. It is about 3 mm thick and shows no evidence of any bonding to the old ceiling paint at all !

What kind of plaster should I use for reskimming it to repair this area?

Should I add a PVA to the mixing water?

Or paint the old ceiling with PVA before skimming? In which case how wet/dry should the PVA be when skimming it?

Brush PVA over the patch overlapping the patch by 4-5 inches and skim with multi feather it out at edges
