Bought some lovely big slate tiles for a new patio and husband spent ages laying hardcore and leveling, and laying them. The disaster is the mortar. He bought brick mortar and now we have beautiful blue/black slate tiles and brown mortar. He's done such a brilliant job I could never say we need to pull the mortar out - first patio he's ever laid and it looks amazing. Is there anyway to paint it grey?????? Brown is truly horrible.

Whoops, whatever you paint it with will peel off, you need to dig it out before it cures too much, go B@Q or wherever and buy some bags of rendering sand, 4 to 1 mix with cement and it will cure to a grey consistency, if you have a cement mixer buy some black Cementone mortar additive and follow mixing instructions for a darker finish.Hope this helps and good luck.

dont touch the ****e from b and q. you will need to point it up with a 3:1 mix of sand and cement. it needs to be a slightly damp mix with a cement dye in it. Be warned it will stain the paving if you are not careful. it is a bugger to do on slate or khota black paving.

Is it not worth just leaving it - it'll soon discolour with weathering anyway.
