SMELLY SINK...VAPOUR?

Hi there I've been told that the smell sink problem I've encountered could be due to VAPOUR and the trap not being man enough. Could one of you guys help me and tell me how to cure the problem please? Also, I think the sink waste eventually flows into a soil pipe a few metres away, could that be the problem?

Vapour - Shmapour! What a load of tosh some plumbers come out with! Probably it's the overflow pipe that needs cleaning out. Squirt some bleach into the overflow outlet.
