I have just ripped out my living room ceiling, I can now see most of the upstairs heating circuit copper pipe work.

Most of the joints are very poor on the pipe work and they are all green and scaly on the solder rim.

This is the perfect chance now to reseal them with a better seal but I have no idea where to start.

Do I need to disconnect them and use new fittings?

Do I clean them up with wire wool then re solder?

Whats the best way to resolder?

Many Thanks

you'll find alot of the green around the fitting is flux that wasn't wiped off.

Cut back to good pipework and discard whatever you've cut out.

Run brand new pipework with brand new fittings. Keep everything spotless, then solder together. Wipe off any excess flux afterwards.

Alternatively, if you're not comfortable with soldering, connect the good pipework with plastic and push-fit fittings. If you want a brand recommendation then Hepworth Hep2o is very good, and demountable (just in case you don't get everything right first time).

I ripped down the ceiling as the old one was bowed.
Boiler has been ripped out due to getting a new combi soon, whilst I have the ceiling down its a good time check dodgy looking pipe work as my combi will run at 1.5 bar and I would hate it to leak over my new ceiling.
