Hoping to move into a new place next month which has solid oak worktops and sink drainer.

What would be the best way to look after them, (besides the obvious like not using them as a butchers chopping block etc), but especially the drainer. The wood itself seems to be about 40mm thick and would hate to damage it through ignorance.
Should we treat it prior to first use, (think it may have been installed by new owner and not used yet), and if so what would you recommend? P1000277.JPG
