Spigot or Standpipe

At old house, my grandfather (ex plumber) installed a standpipe for our dishwasher. At new place, I have connected to the spigot under the kitchen sink above the trap.

What are the advantages / disadvantages of having a separate standpipe to take away my dishwasher waster?

I will be shortly be replacing my sink (and trap), so now seems an appropriate time to install a standpipe if any.

the spigot method is more lible to be choked with peas and tealeaves or, worse, wash them into the appliance with dirty water.

Looping the appliance waste hose up, and clipping it so the top is right up to the draining board height, will reduce the risk of the second problem
