I had my electics inspected in my thacted cottage last friday, 7 it failed
on a few accounts. the consumer unit needs to have an rcd fitted & 2
more mcb's.
what recemdations do you guy's have, I will have to have a lager unit
& what circuits shoul be protected by the RCD & what not.

My personal suggestion as it is a thatched cottage is to have the lights on an RCD so any serious damage to the cabling in the roof are from rodents etc does trip the power to the lights and reduces the chances of an fire caused by electrics in the loft.

I would have two RCD, and have upstairs lights on one and downstair lights on the other. Put the kitchen sockets on the same one as upstairs lights so the kitchen lights remain on if the there is a accident that trips the power in the kitchen.
