So long story short,

i bought a stainless steel sink off ebay (yes i know, ok i shouldnt have!!)

sink 1 faulty, started to rust badly, seller sent another but denied refund

i took a while to fit the second due to cost of emplying someone else!

anyway, got rounf to doing it and the replacement fitted, and yes ive notices spots of rust again!

Can i clear the rust off, if so what with?

what would be causing this rust?

If it is stainless steel, it forms a protective tarnish on contact with the air.

You can make it rust by damaging this tarnish with various chemicals, for example some acid descalers.

Try cleaning it with a green nylon pan-scourer, and polishing off with a barely damp cotton rag.

However, if you see little back pits appearing, this is a fault in the steel of which it is made. It is unusual in European stainless, but sometimes found in imports from countries with poor quality steelworks.

Like everything else, it depends on the quality of the material, and in this case its largely due to the chromium content of the steel.
If you want to do a simple test, it shouldn't be magnetic.
John :)
