Hi there, apologies if this subject has been talked about before, basically I'm having a conservatory converted into an extension. The amount of glazing I want is over 25%, I don't want to reduce it and I don't want to have doors separating the new ext off from my living room so the only way round it seems to be having a SAP done. I've been reading loads as to why and what they measure but I can't find anywhere that gives examples of what might need to be done in order to comply and get it passed so I can have my dream extension!
Any advice / guidance will be greatly appreciated

Thanks

The SAP calcs are just one way of proving compliance with Part L, but they are unnecessarily complex IMO.

Why not just work out the additional heat loss from your extension (ie the heat loss over and above that which would occur had your glazing been within the limits) and then offer to compensate for this additional loss by putting extra insulation elswhere, eg in the loft?

Does your house not need a nice set of patio doors somewhere else? I was thinking you could maybe re-use the ones that would be between the conservatory and house after you finish the conservatory.. Recycling is the future :)

I wouldn't even know where to start with workin out the SAP calculation myself, looks like I'll have to use a company to do it for us, going to ring around tomorrow. We're also having new windows put in and are having them argon filled so hopefully that will go towards it!

Do you have any other ideas on what they might suggest that we could do to improve the heat loss?

Yes, as above;
instead of getting them to do a whole house SAP calc (=£££),
get them to do a much simpler calc - say for increased loft insulation to compensate for the additional heat loss in your extension.
