What's the most suitable timber to use for a stud wall?

I'm getting 50x100mm 3m lengths... but there is quite a variety of different types of treated, non treated, CLS... all a bit overwhelming.

treated if its an external loadbearing wall, untreated for internal walls (no reason why you cant use treated all over though).

CLS just means rounder edges, easier to handle.

Grades such as C16 or C24 are specified by your structural engineer if you have one, higher the number higher the grade.

How come on a lot of sites, they are selling it as 50x100, but then say it's 38x89 ... for the CLS stuff

CLS = Canadian lumber standard

It will be 38x89 because that works out as so many inches x inches or whatever archaic system those americans use. and it will be a FINISHED size, (what you actually get)

50x100 will be a metric size = European. And it will be a sawn size, sawn sizes means it will be about 50x100, so + or - a few mm on each dimension.

If you want an exact size, you want planed timber, which could just be planed on the edges, so for instance 47x100.
