Hello all,
deciding on a new led telly, but not sure about the refresh rates.??

Panasonic have one rated at 150/50hz, and a toshiba at 100/50hz

If they were next to each other would I notice a difference on the picture quality?

In general I would rate Panasonic as a better quality set. So I would put any difference in picture quality down to the set rather than just the refresh rate.

UK TV is broadcast at 50Hz.
100Hz CRT (tube) TV's were sold to help reduce flicker especially on larger screen sizes, the 100Hz digital processing might have reduced flicker but introduced digital artifacts so gave somewhat unnatural pictures according to some.

With LCD / LED/Plasma flat TV's there isn't really any flicker to speak of but some suffer from image ghosting on fast moving objects. As is always the case the TV makers have to add new features on their higher end models to entice you to buy them, so they added 100Hz/200Hz/600Hz sold as image improvements....often the extra processing isn't what makes the higher spec TV's perform better but the better overral quality of LCD panel, image processing circuitry etc. Sometimes turning off the 'image enhancements' gives better results!

My personal take is that a decent quality 50Hz TV will probably still perform better than a budget 100Hz TV. You really need to view the TV with regular programmes rather than the Disney cartoon HD demos they tend to show (which makes it hard to really determine if a TV can create natural looking images)
