The radiator in my bathroom doesn't work. Can it be anything other than an air block? Is there such a thing as a 'dummy' radiator which is not meant to heat up but is necessary as part of the way the heating system is set up?

Thanks in advance.

Check the radiator for heat on the pipes, if the pipes are hot is their air using a "Rad vent key" open the screw slightly on the side and see if water or air comes out if water does turn it off its full of water and is ok.

If you have a combi or a system with a pressure vessel (sealed system) you may need to top that up (silver hose near the red bottle or on the appliance or around it check manual ) it will have a pressure gauge on the appliance or pipework if it is a sealed system.

Once you checked pressure and air in the radiator look at the valves are they open try turning them so they are in the middle, you may need to pull the heads off or turn a nut to remove the heads or a screw in the middle.

one of these valves you cant turn without removing the cap this is a lockshield valve this neeads to be closed and open 1 1/2 turns the other side open to the middle.

If you have a TRV (thermostatic rad valves ) remove the head (turning a silver nut on the plastic head area ect) upon removing u see a pin gently bash this pink untill you can depress it and it pops up.

If you done all the above and the central heating is on it should heat up.

If not you probably have a blocked pipe and need a engineer call
