Just painting the woodwork on the windows - (got a couple of old single glazed feature windows in the house). The brass handles and window stops are either black from dirt/oxidation or covered in 5 layers of old paint. Don't need or want them to look brand spanking new, but want to clean them up a bit.... ideas?

Don't know if its the best thing but I just use fine wire wool, brings them up nice and shiney.

To polish off tarnish, Brasso Wadding (rebranded, it used to be Duraglit)

But to get the old paint off, yes, something like wire wool.
