Is there anything I can do to aid the patches sticking to the existing stab?

Ive got a largeish concreted area made up of about 3-4 ajoining slabs of various sizes and thicknesses and quite a few of them have cracked or in places broken up. Foundations are mixed to non-exisitant.
Obviously the full job would be to remove it, get some proper foundations in, and recover it all, etc. However im not expecting to be here forever and dont need it perfect.

My rough plan is to hack out the broken up areas, clean out the bigger cracks and pour some concrete on it to keep the weeds down and get another few mores years out of it. Anything more clever than just getting it clean and putting down a some 1:2:3 mix.

Thoughts?

Done some more googling adn most guides suggest either damp down with water and and paint with a thin/watered down coat of just cement and water on first. Or use an 'acrylic bonding agent' and paint that on first. But most of what ive found is manufactors sites which obviously simply rave about there own product!

Do people actually use this stuff?
