Hi,
I got this new ceiling light and found that it has no placeholder to connect earth wire. I connected LIVE from ceiling to LIVE, NEUTRAL from ceiling to NEUTRAL and left the EARTH from ceiling as is.

As soon I switched it on, it tripped. It was the MCB tripped.

I tried opening my wiring again to double check, though it was all fine but I saw some burnt marks near one of the joint (not sure whether LIVE or NEUTRAL).

What could be it and whats the next step?

The earth wire should be sleeved with a green and yellow sleeve and connected to a piece of terminal block, assuming the new light is doubled insulated and doesn't require an earth connection.

Could the earth wire have touched the other conductors?

My money would be on you having connected the switch cable across line and neutral.
