We have recently purchased a property that dates back to 1900 and the buildings survey has come back and said that the front entrance porch is in poor order and needs a complete overhaul, which is fine as we planned to do this anyway.

The problem that we have is that the property is semi detached and the front doors to the property’s are side by side and share the same porch roof which is a mono pitched and slate clad.

Ideally we would like to put in a gable roof and wondered if any one else has experienced anything similar and how this works with building regs and property boundaries.

Thanks

Porches can either look like they belong or they can look like a dogs dinner.

Sounds to me like that whatever you do it needs to be done in tandem with your neighbour.

If you decide on a gable ended porch how are you going to deal with the gutter run off on the neighbours side, i.e. do you have room for gutter without encroaching? If not then it will look out of balance and will end up a joke instead of an enhancement.
