Hi there,

I've just moved into my new house but there is one thing that is bugging me about the front door. Its currently open-able from the outside if unlocked and i'd like to change it to a set up where a key is needed for outside access (this is what my family is used to)

I understand that what i need is a Lever/Pad handle, but do i also need to change the whole internal locking mechanism?

Thanks!

edit - the hallmark on the doorlock is Maco 2003 06

Yes, you will need a split spindle mechanism, this is where the square hole that the spindle goes through is split into an inner and outer half, this is why the spindle itself is in 2 halves with the joint falling right in the centre of the spindle hole, the outer spindle operates the outer half of the drive i.e. will only allow the door to be locked, downward does not operate the latch, the inner half works as normal, up and down

Just to give you a brief insight
