Hi, Myself and my husband are pretty familiar with the 13 year old boiler. Its had three diverter valves. We had the green light flashing and running the hot tap it would not light, the central heating was also the same very intermittent. We looked at the diverter valve and could see the plunger was not moving the valve inside and so we ordered a new diverter valve for £60. We fitted it last night as its such an easy job, we followed the instructions in the manual, turning off the valves etc and draining the water out. We filled the water up again to the right pressure and let the air out of the water pump and bled all the radiators as now the heating was working at full heat and the hot tap worked.

Now we have the same problem again. The green light now flashes again, when trying the warmstart the pump works and it tries to ignite twice then gives up and the green light continues flashing. No fault codes. Sometimes it works and lights on warmstart so I run the hot tap then run upstairs to put shower on and then turn hot tap off.
So its an intermittent fault and we are not sure what the next thing is to replace. Boiler is clean and was serviced last year.

Well as nobody is replying to help we have come back from camping over the weekend to find the boiler is now lighting and giving hot water and heating, except sometimes the shower goes hot then cold then hot, it lights for a few minutes then goes out then fires up again.

Think I will see how it goes to end of week and order air pressure switch then aquasensor. If it still goes funny next thing is pcb board.

Perfect change everything lol! New divertor £60 really ? Ebay :D get someone in its cheaper than trying to be clever an do it yourself I thing u got no reply because of ur arrogance?

Don't forget the fan, pump and NTC sensors either. That should do it...

I'm using my initiative in trying to sort the boiler. Its had plumbers out before and been fixed with new diverter valve. I know this boiler and how it works. I'm not asking for an argument. My second posting was arrogant but funnily now you reply? Boiler is now working. Using diagnostics is pointing us to the problem. 60 quid for the valve is cheap and yes we did use eBay. Previous ones have cost me 80 quid? I may be a girl but I'm not stupid. My husband is a maintenance fitter so we are using commonsense. Its an olkd boiler. Thankyou

Thank you

But, wonderful as he may be it seems that he is not a skilled boiler diagnostics engineer!

Its very difficult for us to come to any conclusion about your boiler. To diagnose boiler faults I need to be at the boler and carry out diagnostic tests.

Tony

PS I have corrected some the grammar/spelling in the part of your posting that I quoted.

Yep I wouldn't attempt his job, u need to find urself a specialist locally, it's cheaper in the long run, I'm just being honest and no offence wa intended, we all knew what the problem was from your first post, an I'm sure you'll get there in the end. But ur not there yet ;)

PS. I have highlighted the spellings mistakes in your post that I quoted ;)[/u]

Thanks agile, I was typing the reply last night on my blackberry phone which is not easy to type on the small buttons.

Anyhow so far the boiler has been working great.

No worries yet will keep an eye on it.

Yes, many of those Blackberry phones have stupidly small buttons.

Hope the boiler keeps going!

Tony

Boiler now not working again properly. Checked the aquasensor, everything clear, propeller spinning. For some reason when shower running, its not sensing the demand for heating at same time. Shows S13 on the information button.

The divertor valve is ok. We turn up the thermostat on central heating and pump starts again but its not calling for heat and not firing.

Could this be the boiler card?

Your boiler only provides ONE bservice at a ti8me.

A hot water demand takes priority!

You said that you understood your boiler!

Its only just started doing this yesterday, so it seems to point to the air pressure switch which has never been changed. Fan running, pump running. Turning central heating dial down to off the board senses it but when turning the dial back up the boiler should recognise the radiators are cold but does not come on. Turn tap on and green light flashing but doesn't demand the boiler to light.

It works eventually so have asked a vaillant engineer and first thing points to is the aps. Just got one off web for £29 plus delivery vaillant part 0020018138 brand new. Phoned a spares place and theirs was around £45.

I didn't say I was an expert. Id rather replace parts if it fixes it rather than shell out over £2k for a boiler.
