The easiest way of getting the oil out is to run a hose into the filler and let it overflow with the engine running. You only need a fairly small flow, as the oil comes to the top it will run over the side. It will probably take a long time to get rid of all of it but as long as you have mostly water in it you can use it. If you give it a flushing session every time you come home it will gradually clear it.

I'm just concerned it is still mixing and it was the head gasket after all. What are my warning signs from here on. My fan doesn't seem to be kicking in at all

If its the gasket it will push the water out when you rev it.

Good you got sorted, as Peter says it will take a while. Just keep a wee eye on coolant level and oil level over the next few days. Bit of fairy or Ariel tabs will break up the oil.
