We've had a wall mounted spotlight fitted in our attic WC for 10 years or so & in the last weeks, whenever we try to switch it on, a burning smell starts, then the bulb flickers with a popping sound, then goes out.
I was going to replace and fit another wall light, but wanted to check if it was just a faulty fitting, or something to do with the house wiring.
Nothing else seems to me affected.

Thanks :)

Most likely a faulty lamp holder not making contact to the lamps terminal properly or a loose connection where the wires connect to the fitting. You could check these things first.

Or damp. Take I out and give it a full visual check, power off of course and make a note of the wiring if you disconnect anything.

Could be damp from a slip roof tile, or from the room. Winter, cold air, hot water etc.
