Hi

After moving in to a house 6 months ago with a water softener fitted to the mains, I've had a letter suggesting I need a service (as it's been 2 years since the last one apparently). This is from the company that supplied the softener.

They quote £73 fixed for labour and callout (any replacement parts extra).

My question is - How important is it to get a softener regularly serviced? Is this a fair price? Does anyone have any experience of having a softener and not getting it serviced (and the resulting good/bad results!)?

It is a 'Mayfair M2000' if that helps.

Cheers.

I don't have mine serviced, just mended when it goes wrong. This is about once in ten years.

I suppose the people who supplied it have to make a living, and charging their customers £72 every two years is one way to do it

i thought that might be the case...
sounds like it is just worth fixing when it breaks.

Cheers
