We just plastered on artex and the lot fell down-DONT LAUGH

From what you've said, it sounds like the bond between the artex and the plaster is not the problem, more like the bond between the artex and the ceiling is the problem. If this is the case, then you probably have to either remove the artex, or replace the ceiling.... Sorry
