What is a cavity tray?

The cavity tray stops any water penetrating the brick work above the new conservatory opening from making it's way inside. You may get away with not having one depending on what elevation you are on (shelter), but I would always insist on one.
 
Conservatorys are considered temporary structures, hence why you need an external door on the inside. Thus it wont need a cavity tray. But most people prefer a dry conservatory its upto you.
 
Have to agree... If you don't fit one, you will kick yourself later once all the walls start growing fungus..

Then again, thats what they were used for back in Victorian times, to grow all the lovely new species of plants introduced by those explorer types. :D
