Hi,

Just finishing a conservatory build and now onto the difficult task of paint types and colours, etc.

Was given the hard sell on Valspar when getting some colour ideas down the local diy superstore yesterday but thought it best to go with something like Dulux Trade.

I need an emulsion which is reasonably matt, durable and okay for a conservatory (not sure if high UV levels can affect emulsion colours). Does anyone have any practical feedback on the following Dulux Trade paint types ( the colour we want can be obtained ine these) which may be suitable:

Vinyl Matt
Durable Flat Matt
Diamond Matt
Ecosure Matt
Vinyl Soft Sheen

Appreciate any views.

Many thanks,

Damian

If you want durability it would have to be diamond matt, but there's not much difference in price between that and little green intellimatt which is a far superior paint. I don't use many Dulux products now, i feel the whole range is well below standard.

Thanks for the reply.

Dulux have 'the' colour, so I could do with sticking with their pain. I suppose as the conservatory isn't a walkway, I could go with something less durable.

I bumped into a painting contractor at work today and he suggested the Diamond Matt was a bit of a bugger to work with - seemed to suggest the cutting in can peel when it comes to using the roller. Preference was to stick to the vinyl matt.

Any thoughts.

Thanks again,

Damian

But you don't cut in with a roller - or is that not what you meant?

I always use masonry paint in conservatories/sunrooms if I have the choice, or as dcdec says, Little Greene Intelligent Matt.

What colour is it, exactly, that you are after?

Well after all that, spoke to Dulux and their website is wrong. You can only get the colour in Durable Flat Matt and Vinyl Matt.

Too many choices, even the Dulux rep had difficulty selling one over the other.

Spoke to Little Greene as I've heard good things from them but they can only match RAL colours and I don't think this colour is a RAL colour. Shame as for a consumer, the Intellimatt was working out about £8 cheaper for 2.5l than Diamond Matt.

If the whole space is painted in Mulberry Burst won't it be like living inside a blood clot?

I'd go for something more subtle and restful for a conservatory, if I were you!

Ha - just one wall (house wall so will not be seen from inside), the rest will be painted white(ish).

Seen the is combination somewhere and looked okay.

Just to close this one out...

In the end I ended up with Johnstone's Acrylic Durable Matt. Much cheaper than Dulux, ,attached close to the Dulux but I slightly better colour IMO and some decent reviews.

Thanks for the input.
