I am planning to refurbish our kitchen and want to put in an extracting cooker hood, so need to put in ducting. Probably it's a stupid question, but who do I call in for making the hole into the outside wall? It's a 1970's house with cavity walls that are filled with some insulation (don't know what material). Ideally I'd like to put in rigid ducting, possibly square, but I guess round ducting is easier to run through the wall.
In our last house, the electrian who upgraded the kitchen wiring had a core drill and did it, but who would you call in?

There are companies that specialise in core drilling. They have top equipment, are very clean and quick, but are also quite costly. They typically have a minimum call charge of a couple hundred but will do two or three cores for that. Not bad value if you've got a boiler and a couple of fans to do but a bit of stinger for one cooker hood. Otherwise a general builder.

As above, are u refurbing the kitchen or a joiner? They will probably have the gear to do it, if not you can hire core drills/cores at a hire shop for a couple of hours rather then getting a company in, the companies tend to be for solid stone 2ft walls and the like that's why they're so expensive.

Electricians drill holes for fans. Plumbers drill holes for flues. Builders drill holes for anything.

Anyone with a drill and core bit. You don't need to go to a specialist core drilling company.

Thanks all. I am fitting the kitchen myself, but will need to get in an electrian anyway to do the wiring. So will ask him.
